History and Education are once again at the center of the political culture wars. This time the Republican members of the South Carolina State Legislature have proposed Bills S534 (in the Senate) and H3002 (in the House). These bills use the pretext of history and civic education to force the instruction of specific topics that are little more than ahistoric propaganda. I have sent the following letter to my representatives in the state legislature but am sharing it here to hopefully draw more attention to this problematic legislation. Please examine these bills, read my letter, and then I hope you will help stop this legislation by writing letters and calling representatives yourselves.
